Through My Eyes, By My Hands

April 2023. Through My Eyes, By My Hands is Duckie’s solo senior show, combining his ceramic work with his film photography.

This show explores the body and community through ceramic form & glaze alongside portraiture of Duckie’s community. His vantage point as a member of vulnerable groups allows him to share a unique perspective on the people and places dear to him.

His ceramic work is an echo of his own physical body, the literal negative space of his hands. He uses glaze as abstract color that engages with the forms, stretching over and pooling beneath their curves.

Duckie’s photography focuses on fleeting moments of vulnerability. His film photography is an exploration of the self through community– the gaze of my subjects to his camera, past his camera, to him, is what he aims to capture. Moments we have between each other are just that, between each other. By documenting these moments he hopes to preserve the love and spirit of his vulnerable community. We care for each other as we navigate survival in a world so deeply opposed to unconditional love.
